An alternative to domain wall fermions
نویسندگان
چکیده
We define a sparse hermitian lattice Dirac matrix, H, coupling 2n+ 1 Dirac fermions. When 2n fermions are integrated out the induced action for the last fermion is a rational approximation to the hermitian overlap Dirac operator. We provide rigorous bounds on the condition number of H and compare them to bounds for the higher dimensional Dirac operator of domain wall fermions. Our main conclusion is that overlap fermions should be taken seriously as a practical alternative to domain wall fermions in the context of numerical QCD. Typeset using REVTEX 1

Alternative to Domain Wall Fermions
An alternative to commonly used domain wall fermions is presented. Some rigorous bounds on the condition number of the associated linear problem are derived. On the basis of these bounds and some experimentation it is argued that domain wall fermions will in general be associated with a condition number that is of the same order of magnitude as the product of the condition number of the linear ...
متن کاملDomain wall fermions and applications
Domain wall fermions provide a complimentary alternative to traditional lattice fermion approaches. By introducing an extra dimension, the amount of chiral symmetry present in the lattice theory can be controlled in a linear way. This results in improved chiral properties as well as robust topological zero modes. A brief introduction on the subject and a discussion of chiral properties and appl...
متن کاملDynamical lattice QCD thermodynamics with domain wall fermions
We present results from simulations of two flavor QCD thermodynamics at Nt = 4 with domain wall fermions. In contrast to other lattice fermion formulations, domain wall fermions preserve the full SUL(Nf )⊗ SUR(Nf) symmetry of the continuum at finite lattice spacing (up to terms exponentially small in an extra parameter). Just above the phase transition, we find that the UA(1) symmetry is broken...
متن کاملFermion–scalar interactions with domain wall fermions
Domain wall fermions are defined on a lattice with an extra direction the size of which controls the chiral properties of the theory. When gauge fields are coupled to domain wall fermions the extra direction is treated as an internal flavor space. Here it is found that this is not the case for scalar fields. Instead, the interaction takes place only along the link that connects the boundaries o...
متن کاملDomain wall fermions in vector gauge theories
I review domain wall fermions in vector gauge theories. Following a brief introduction, the status of lattice calculations using domain wall fermions is presented. I focus on results from QCD, including the light quark masses and spectrum, weak matrix elements, the n f = 2 finite temperature phase transition, and topology and zero modes and conclude with topics for future study.
